A Good Foundation
A good foundation is required for success in training your dog. At RB DOG TRAINING you will learn the 4 keys for successful dog training.
The 4 keys to successful dog training are:
1) Leadership
2) Knowledge
3) Consistency
4) Patience
Leadership is often overlooked in dog training. Your dog will, in most cases, follow you and see you as the pack leader as long as you act as a leader. In the dog world leaders dictate when, where and how the pack goes anywhere or set out for the hunt for food. The leader goes first. If another member of the pack tries to take the lead, that member is reprimanded.
So how does this translate to your leadership with your dog? You need to be confident in the fact that you are the leader. You always go through a doorway first. You decide where you are going for a walk. You decide when dinner time is. If you want to pick up your dog’s food bowl, you just do it.
Knowledge is having the basic knowledge of how to train your dog. Your instructor should describe and demonstrate how to teach a new behavior and when and how to praise a new or correct behavior.
Once you have learned a new concept, practice it often. This will allow you to know what to do during your training sessions at home.
Consistency can make or break your training. Dogs excel with consistency. When they learn a new behavior you expect them to perform the behavior the same way and with the same command.
Patience equals confidence. Understand that training is a learning experience. It will take time and repetition to teach a new behavior. Don’t expect perfection overnight.
